Lucky Charms
A charm can be any object considered to be filled with enchanting powers for a certain purpose, be that love, health or luck. These are more commonly found in the form of a gemstone, amulet, talisman, bracelet or an object from nature. A high majority believe on some level that the force of nature, god or even just magic powers can be stored in these objects.
Depending on religion or beliefs different things are considered to be lucky charms, although they might not be described as such all of the time.
Birthstones
One of the biggest lucky charm which has moved into the mainstream is the birth stone. With a different one for each month they were originally used to take control over what had previously been considered to be powers of nature. Man searched for objects that could be seen to hold the powers of nature within them and therefore if carried with him would mean he had control over his own destiny. Birthstones are now found in bracelets, pendants, earrings and rings. Here are the different birthstones for each month of the year.
Rabbit’s Foot
A rabbit’s foot is considered to be lucky due to the Celtic belief that the rabbits held the spirit numina within them. Due to their ability to reproduce in great numbers rabbits were considered to contain spirits that gave luck, health and prosperity. Therefore to carry a part of a rabbit would give the person the same powers, why has it ended up as the foot? Well, we have guessed that it’s because it’s the easiest part of the animal to put on a keyring!
Turkish Evil Eye Pendants
You’ll see a few of these in the bingo room. Anyone who has been on holiday to Turkey will come back with a Turkish evil eye for luck. The Turkish people consider the “nazar boncugu” to ward off any envious or greedy advances… Especially handy in the bingo room if you have a win! Lots of Turkish people go so far as to have the eye built into the walls of their houses to protect them and their families from evil spirits. So if you don’t want to share your winnings in the bingo room, get yourself one of these evil eyes and ward off any advances from your fellow bingo players.
Four Leaf Clover
In many cultures a four leaf clover is considered to be a lucky thing as they are rare to find. Simple as that! Get your kids off out into the garden to find you one, put it in a book to dry and then put it by your computer if you’re playing online or take it with you in your purse on the way to the bingo hall.
Other things
Other than that if an object means something to you then you will probably consider it to be lucky. The first soft toy your husband bought you. The silly little ornament your child or grandchild won for you at the arcade. Anything can be lucky for you as long as it means something and it has been given through love or kindness. So let us know what is lucky for you and we’ll add it here!
